WanderFella by GrainHour
Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and GrainHour (operated by Ching-Han Lee as a sole proprietor), which makes the iOS app WanderFella, called “we” and “us” here. We have kept them short and plain. By using the app or buying a Travel Pass, you agree to them.
1. The basics
- WanderFella comes from the App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “standard EULA”) applies to it. These terms add what is specific to WanderFella.
- How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
2. Free at home, free uses abroad
- In your home country, WanderFella is free and unlimited, within fair use.
- When you are abroad, tours, live interpreting, menu translation and a few other features include a number of free uses every day. When they run out, you can use bonus points or get WanderFella Pro; otherwise the free uses come back the next day.
- Finding a restroom, Location and Meetup are free at home and abroad. (Google details on a place card are one of the features with free daily uses abroad.)
- Your home country is the country of your App Store account, or your phone’s region setting if the app can’t read it. Where you are comes from your phone’s location, or from its time zone when location is off. If the app can’t tell, it treats you as being at home. This can occasionally be wrong; if you live abroad, or the app gets it wrong, email us and we can set your home country.
- We may change what is free at home, the number of free uses abroad and the fair-use rules. The app shows the current free uses.
3. WanderFella Pro: the Travel Pass
- While you have an active Travel Pass, you have WanderFella Pro: tours, live interpreting and menu translation are unlimited, at home and abroad, within fair use.
- The Travel Pass comes in two lengths, 7 days and 30 days. A 7-day pass lasts 7 × 24 hours from the moment it starts; a 30-day pass lasts 30 × 24 hours.
- You choose when it starts. It starts now unless you pick a later date and time (for example, the morning you leave), up to 60 days after you buy it; then it starts by itself at that time, in your phone’s time zone. Until it starts, you can change the start time or start it right away; once it has started, it can’t be changed.
- You can have one pass at a time. While a pass is active or waiting to start, you can’t buy another; once it ends, you can buy again.
- It is a one-time payment and does not renew.
- A pass works on the iPhones that use the same Apple ID, up to five per purchase. On a new phone, or after reinstalling the app, tap Restore purchases on the Travel Pass screen.
- Fair use: to keep the service working well for everyone, we block clearly abnormal use. We don’t publish the exact limits, so that they can’t be gamed; ordinary use, even heavy use on a trip, will not reach them.
- The price is shown in the app before you buy, in your App Store currency.
4. Payment, refunds and tips
- Apple handles payment. We never see your card details.
- Refunds follow Apple’s rules and are decided by Apple. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple refunds a pass, it stops working.
- Treat your guide: you can leave a tip in the app (a coffee, a lunch box or a nice meal). A tip is a thank-you: it does not unlock any features, and it is not a donation. Refunds of tips also follow Apple’s rules.
5. Bonus points
You can earn bonus points in the app (for example, by answering an optional survey, rating a tour, reporting a restroom or using an invite code) and use them for extra uses when free uses run out. Points cannot be bought, have no cash value, and expire after a while; the app shows when.
6. What the app can and cannot do
- AI can be wrong. Tours, sign reading, menu translation, live interpreting and suggestions are produced by AI and can be inaccurate or incomplete. Check anything important before you rely on it.
- Allergies and diet: always confirm ingredients and allergens with the restaurant. The app only flags what the menu itself says, and can show your allergy note in the local language, but it cannot tell you that a dish is safe for you.
- Prices converted into your currency, and order totals, are estimates; tax and tip are not included. The restaurant’s bill is what counts.
- Restrooms: restroom information comes from public sources and from people’s reports, and can be out of date. Whether a shop lets you use its restroom is up to the shop.
- Location and Meetup help people find each other and meet on time. They are not an emergency or rescue service, and we cannot promise that anyone will be found or that every reminder or notification will arrive. In an emergency, call the local emergency number.
7. Using the app fairly
- Live interpreting processes what both you and the other person say. Let them know you are using it.
- Shared menus, meeting points and location links can be opened by anyone who has the link or code. Share them only with the people you mean to.
- Do not use the app to break the law or to harm others, and do not try to get around its limits, for example by misusing invite codes.
8. Changes to the app
- We keep improving WanderFella, so features may be added, changed or removed. We announce changes to the free daily uses in the app.
- If we close the service, or stop offering a feature that WanderFella Pro covers, we will announce it in the app at least 30 days before, and stop selling Travel Passes from that announcement. Passes that have already started keep working until then; a pass that has not started yet can be started right away. For a refund of a pass you can no longer use, ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; refunds are decided by Apple.
9. Our responsibility
We work hard to make WanderFella accurate and reliable, but we provide it as it is, and we cannot promise that it will always be available, work everywhere or be free of mistakes. The standard EULA’s terms on warranty and limitation of liability apply: as far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from using the app or relying on what it says. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law that cannot be waived.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page, and take effect when posted here.
